Sally's Seashell
Reflective Endnote: "Sally's Seashell" --Children's Book
Sally's Seashell is a children's book that I wrote and illustrated with Dr. Seuss' style in mind. I chose this genre because I thought that it would be a creative and fun way to express my interest in drawing and writing and at the same time connect this passion with Dr. Seuss' career as a cartoonist and writer. When I was younger, I would always create my own children's books to read to my younger sister, Tracy, during her bedtime. These stories would always succeed in making her smile and helping her to sleep thinking of the fun characters and crazy adventures that I would write about. I wanted to reflect this personal passion of helping and working with kids into one of my genres and I found the genre of children's book perfect in representing this passion of mine. I also chose this genre in order to practice and improve my writing, as Sally's Seashell required me to think of a creative plot as well as fun rhymes and limericks. Overall, this genre connects to thesis as it represents the similarity between Dr. Seuss' American Dream and my own: the same passion of entertaining kids and making them smile.
